Ezekiel's Burden
Ezekiel 1:1-2 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. 2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
Have you ever read the Book of Ezekiel? It's quite the Book. God sends him forth to proclaim the sin of the people and carry their burden in a very public and painful way....
Poor Ezekiel!!!
I can't imagine why the children of Israel wouldn't see their obvious sin and repent, right?
And then, I have to admit that there is a streak of rebellion in my life from time to time when I don’t rely my new nature, but instead fall back into living under my old nature which gets me in trouble. Israel’s sins are all over the pages of the Bible and yet the Lord tells us through the Apostle Paul we should learn from them and not follow what they had done.... the problem is that sometimes I do follow their rebellious ways!
"Old things are passed away" is a phrase from the Bible, specifically 2 Corinthians 5:17, which means that when someone becomes a follower of Christ, their old life and sinful nature are replaced by a new life in Christ, signifying a complete transformation and renewal; essentially, the "old" way of living is gone and a new one has taken its place.
